Jail Chief Requests Time to Consider Majithia’s Separate Barrack Plea

No Relief for Majithia on Separate Barrack Request; Jail Superintendent Seeks More Time

Next Hearing Scheduled for July 17: Jail

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia received no relief from the court regarding his plea for a separate barrack in Nabha Jail. During the Mohali court hearing, the Jail Superintendent requested more time to file a detailed response. The court granted the request and scheduled the next hearing for July 17.

Following his arrest on June 25 in a high-profile drug trafficking case, Majithia remains lodged in Nabha Jail. He requested Category-A prisoner status and a separate barrack, citing security concerns. While the court acknowledged his Category-A status, it has yet to decide on his demand for a separate barrack.

The jail administration informed the court that it is preparing a response and will soon submit additional clarifications.

Majithia’s legal team argued that placing him with general inmates could endanger his life due to the sensitive nature of the case and multiple threats received. They also filed a separate petition demanding enhanced security.

Ganieve Kaur Meets Majithia in Nabha Jail; Calls Him a Political Target

Bikram Majithia’s wife and MLA, Ganieve Kaur, visited him at Nabha Jail on Monday. Their meeting lasted about 1 hour and 25 minutes.

After the visit, she addressed the media and compared Majithia’s situation to that of freedom fighters. She claimed the government is targeting him out of fear. According to her, Majithia spends his time reading religious scriptures and avoids any disruptive behavior inside the jail. She once again demanded his safety and insisted that the authorities should not keep him with other inmates.

Bail Hearing Postponed to July 22

In a separate proceeding, the court also heard Majithia’s bail plea. His legal counsel argued that the case is politically motivated and intended to tarnish his image. The prosecution opposed the bail, claiming that his release could influence the ongoing investigation. The court postponed the hearing to July 22.

Majithia faces serious drug trafficking charges and shares the spotlight with several high-profile figures, including former Punjab DGP Sukhchain Singh Chattopadhyay and former ED Deputy Director Niranjan Singh. Investigators are continuing to collect witness statements as the probe moves forward.
